The presidential ordinance in 1970 gave birth to the much needed Kolkata metropolitan development authority for the city of Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta). Its main objectives are to plan and promote the development modules in metropolitan area of Kolkata. It allots new land sites for new ventures and takes care of the already existing structures in the city. Apart from these services, Kolkata metropolitan development authority provides and manages basic amenities like water, waste management and drainage dispatch. Kolkata metropolitan development authority is termed as Technical Secretariat to KMPC (Kolkata Metropolitan Planning Committee).

For Kolkata metropolitan development authority the biggest challenge faced is the population of the city. As a reason it development authority is constantly keeping track of this account and drafting layout plans for numerous housing schemes. The housing scheme possesses a separate plan for every class of the society which are generally based on need and budget of that particular class of people. In the past five years, as many as ten housing projects were developed by the development authority which was budgeted to whooping Rs 140.61 crore. Presently another eight projects are on its way of progress which promises Kolkata with more supply so as to meet the demand mounting every year. Out of these if we name some projects the list would be like this: Barrack pore Housing (Phase-II), Purba Housing, GL Block Housing Complex, VAMBAY (Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana) and Baishnabghata-Patuli Township Area.

Kolkata metropolitan development authority is known for the development of specialised projects like: India Population Project, Ganga Action Plan, Refugee Colony Development, Kolkata Slum Improvement Programme and Bustee Improvement Programme. These projects are not only benefiting the city of Kolkata but also solving many problems faced by the central government of India. Apart from these services, the development authority takes care of basic needs of people like water supply, sanitation, transportation, sewerage, traffic etc. For more than thirty years now this metropolitan development authority has been providing transparent services to its citizens and built a sense of pride and integrity in minds of its residents.

The Hyderabad Urban Development Authority was formed in the year 1975 by the state government of Andhra Pradesh. The objectives behind the establishment of Hyderabad urban development authority are: planning, co-ordinated development and finally the implementation protocol of drafted plans for urbanisation of the city, Hyderabad. HUDA covers the whole of Hyderabad district along with parts of Medak district. To facilitate the functionality of HUDA, the government of Andhra Pradesh has sub-divided the body in to various departments like: modern Town Planning, Real Estate, Housing Schemes, Urban Development, Hyderabad Property Management and HUDA affordable housing. Of late, HUDA has been offering affordable residential options for those sections of society who are economically weak. For many years now, HUDA has taken good care of LIG (lower income group) and some MIG (middle income group) also have been benefitting from the services of HUDA.

HUDA officials possess the knack of turning a thermal dump area on the bank of mighty Lake Husain Sagar which is located in the heart of the city, in to a lush green N.T.R Gardens. Such activities only boosted the land value in Hyderabad and suddenly the city started to gain the commercial popularity which it deserved. Many multi-national firms and corporations are now turning to Hyderabad and choosing it as the place for business activities in south India. The reason behind this could be that HUDA is helpful in drafting a plan for the layouts to ensure better property management and infrastructure building. Banking on this boom, real estate business and commercial plots/properties owners are thriving on both hands.

HUDA functions very systematically as it draft a lay out plan for any particular zonal development project. Since the residents of Hyderabad are environment conscious, HUDA has taken up some environmental enhancement programs like plantation of trees and closed drainage circuits. The famous clean and green Hyderabad programme is the brain child of HUDA. Many planning agencies have joined hands with HUDA to mutually complete many urbanisation projects. TO name two big agencies we have: Buddha Purnima Project Authority and Cyberabad Development Authority.

Bangalore development authority came in to existence in the year 1976 under the Bangalore development authority act issued in the year 1976. After the established of its office, Bangalore development authority has merged the departments of City Improvement Trust Board (CITB) and Bangalore City Planning Authority. The development authority of Bangalore is now undertaking numerous housing projects, layout planning of infrastructural outlook for the city of Bangalore, allots new sites for various residential ventures and commercial complexes. The Bangalore development authority is working with vision of procuring the city with continuous, meticulously planned and sustained growth to meet international standards in the long run.

The numbers suggest that Bangalore development authority has been working hard from its inception to provide the best possible service. As many as 76,000 sites were allotted to many individuals and other building firms to facilitate infrastructural growth in the city. Many civic amenities were paid lot of interest as their respective boards were allotted with required land sites to help them for the cause of public utility. The best part of the development authority is that its auction planner. No particular individual or firm is favoured as most of the auctions are carried out very transparently as there carefully planned and executed. Apart from these services many others are also been provided by Bangalore development authority. To name some departments of its office we have: Engineering Department BDA, BDA Town Planning Department, Land Acquisition Department, Finance Department, Law Department, General Allotment Department of BDA, Public Relations, Environment and Horticulture, Integrated Urban Environment Improvement Project (IUEIP) etc. All the above departments work hand in hand to make Bangalore a better place to live in. Some of the major projects which are in progress, undertaken by Bangalore development authority are: Banashankari extension project, Arkavathi Nagar, Ananda Rao Circle Flyover, Shri M. Visveswaraiahnagar and Bangalore city Ring Road.
