Amritsar in Punjabi means the lake of holy nectar. This place is located on Amritsar district, in the state of Punjab. This place is located on the north western part of India, which is 32 miles east of Lahore. Most of the ancient people say that this name was derived from the Amrit-Saagar. Amrit-Saagar means- “The ocean of Nectar of Immortality”. This place is a home of famous Golden Temple, which was once called as Harmandir Sahib. This temple is believed to be the cultural and spiritual center of the Sikh religion. This temple, although not the Seven Wonders of the World, has gained huge demand when compared to Taj Mahal. Most of the NRI visit this place to see the beauty of the golden temple.

People, who travel to this temple, will pass through five important places. The Darshani Deori is the main entrance, which is having a distinctly Victorian clock tower. Later they pass through the giant pool of water called as Amrit Sarovar. This Sarovar is the place, where most of the Pilgrims take bath. Later they reach the Harmandir Sahib. This is the golden temple which has a sacred Adi Granth scripture. Opposite to this Mandir there is a place called Akal Tkath, which means timeless. Here Sikh and deliberates sit at night. Later finally people come across the Sikh museum. This museum consists of paintings and shows ways how most of the Sikhs were martyred. People while coming out can see the famous Jallianwala Bagh Entrance. This was the place where British soldier troop killed around 1579 people.

Durgiana Mandir is located close to the golden temple. This temple is known for its style and glory. This temple is of Hindu Goddess Durga. People, who go to this place, offer their prayers to Durga and other deities like Narayan and lakshmi. It was believed that this temple was built in 16th century AD. Baba Atal Rai tower is situated in a less distance from this town. This tower is believed to be the place where Guru Har Gobind died. The Wagah Border is a place which defines the indo Pakistan border. This is just 28km away from the town of Amritsar.
